I am back ………

Over three years after my last entry on this blog, I have decided to resume writing. So much has happened since then……..

For a start, I turned 80 last January and so I am now in the ninth decade of my life! My three children are also getting on—one is in her mid-50s, one in her early 40s and the youngest is in his late 30s. Who would have thunk that I would actually have middle-aged children, or close to it!

Two months ago, we moved from Tampa to be close to our son, Amit, and his partner, Brett. Although we are still quite functional, we are at a stage of life where our health could deteriorate, and we did not want to wait until that happened before making the move. Moving while fully functional was challenging enough; the thought of doing so when we were less than functional is too much to contemplate.

Amit lives in Redwood City, near San Francisco, and we are living with him and Brett. We feel fortunate to be able to do so—and, more importantly, to feel welcome rather than feeling like a burden they have had to take on.

One of the huge changes in the past three-plus years since I last posted on this blog has been becoming familiar with AI. I used Claude to redesign this site, including changing the theme. I just told Claude what I wanted to do and it was done—an oversimplification, but broadly accurate. I have never been intimidated by technology, and now, even in my eighties, I am still learning new tricks.

I hope to post more frequently……like the title says, “Reflections, Ruminations and Recollections”! Stay tuned……..

Thanks for sharing your, Rana. I wasn’t aware that you have moved. I thought you were still in Tampa.
I agree that it’s a good move to be with your family. My children also keep reminding us to move with them for the same reasons. Our daughter Rena is in Long Island and our son is near Berkeley, California. I can’t bear cold weather anymore although my wife can handle it. California is very expensive,,so we’re going stick it out here in South Carolina.
I’ll look forward to more blogs from you soon 😀

Thanks for your comments, Desh. Yes, it was a decision we came to about six months before we moved. The weather in SFO is generally favorable but you are right … California is expensive.

The post I wrote today will be of interest to you since we both encountered education in colonial Kenya. I wonder if you have any memory of the strike I cited.
