Thanks to Jill Breitbarth who provided me with a clipping from the New York Times reporting on the crash of Pan Am 217 including a listing of the passengers on the flight. The original posting appeared on this blog several months ago.

Some of the names on the list have typos but it is the only comprehensive listing that I have seen of the passengers and crew on that ill-fated flight.

I will be pleased to correct any typos or inaccuracies if they are brought to my attention.

Corrections:

Franciska Buyers is listed as “Francisca BULLYARD – Stewardess”
Anita Englander is listed as “Anita Engeleand”
Eva Johanson is listed as “Eva Johnson”

Saul, I’m truly sorry for the loss of your big brother. I wanted to take a moment to gently clarify that Richard’s last name was Cruz. There are documents from his early childhood with Cruz as his last name, as well as the official death certificate issued by the U.S. State Department, which includes his information from his vital records. Richard was a U.S. citizen, and the State Department reports all deaths of American citizens abroad, which is why they hold this record.

If this Richard Cruz is your brother, it’s possible he was adopted by the Cruz family at a very young age. However, there is no mistake regarding his last name Cruz. This is confirmed by multiple official records spanning his life from the age of five until his death, including records from several travels he did in his teen years, with his mother and sister. Cheers, lizzie
